Avian flu spreading in backyard flocks

Six of the last flocks infected with avian influenza in Minnesota have been backyard flocks including one in Swift County. A backyard flock of just 16 birds was reported infected by the Minnesota Board of Animal Health April 28.
Swift County has seen three turkey barns infected with the deadly avian flu causing the death of 304,085 turkeys.
In all, the state has seen the avian influenza lead to the death of 2.418 million turkeys, 309,522 chickens, and 515 backyard poultry.
