Anderson wins District 12A House election

Republican Paul Anderson of Starbuck won the election to the new District 12A state House seat with 71.1% of the vote. He defeated Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) candidate Eddie Barrett of Ortonville who got 5,388 votes, or 28.8%

Anderson, 70, a farmer who lives near Starbuck, has a physical education degree from the University of Minnesota, Morris. He was first elected to the House in 2008.

The new District 12A House includes all of Swift, Stevens, and Big Stone counties, most of Pope County, and 12 townships in western Stearns County. The new boundaries will be in place for the next decade.

Anderson currently represents the old District 12B, which did not include Swift County. The new legislative districts were drawn based on the 2020 U.S. Census and will be in place for the next decade.
