Braves split double- header with Montevideo

The Benson baseball team had three games last week, going 1-2.  The Braves fell to Melrose last Monday night at home, 10-0, but came back the next night to win at Montevideo, 11-6.  The Braves also hosted WCC-leading Minnewaska Area, Friday, and the Braves fell just short of the upset, losing 2-1.  Benson also fell to the Lakers earlier this year, 1-0.

Benson, which is 6-8 overall and 4-8 in the conference, has just one more scheduled date during the regular-season as the Braves were set to host Morris Area-CA, Tuesday (yesterday).

Benson is also set to take part in the Section 3AA Tourney openers, Saturday.  The Braves were seeded fifth and open up the tournament against Montevideo at 1 p.m. at top-seeded Paynesville.  The Braves beat Montevideo twice this season, 6-1 and 11-6.

“We are looking forward to the playoffs,” coach Mark Grussing said.  “We have played a lot of competitive baseball this spring and are hopeful to play our best in the coming days.  Paynesville has a neat ballpark and it should be a fun day of baseball...”
