Benson wrestlers rout SC-Melrose for first win

The Benson wrestling team had a busy week last week, competing in a home triangular, Thursday, and also competing at the Willmar Tournament, Saturday.

The Braves split their matches at the triangular, beating Sauk Centre-Melrose in the first match, 63-15, but also losing to Detroit Lakes in the final match of the night, 66-6.

At Willmar, Benson placed sixth and KMS was third in a meet dominated by the host Cardinals, who won nine of the 14 individual titles on the way to 243 points with St. Cloud in second with 141.5 points.

Coy Gunderson (106 pounds), Will Magaard (126), and Jared Carlson (145) won titles for the Saints, with Chase Magaard (113) and Richard Jones (182) placing second, while for Benson, Wyatt McGee (160 pounds) and Alden Syltie (22) both placed second to lead the way.

The only competition for Benson this week is the BOLD triangular, Friday, which also includes a strong Wabasso-Red Rock Central team...
