Lady Storm shut out by Luverne in season opener

The Morris-Benson Area girls hockey team opened up the 2018-19 season with an 11-0 home loss to Luverne, Friday night at the Benson Civic Center.

Luverne outshot the Lady Storm 37-9, scoring two goals in the first period and adding eight more in the second period before settling for one goal in the final period.

The Lady Storm, coached by Abby Daly and Mitch Bruns, went 1-16 last year, beating Park Rapids for their only win of the season.

MBA was also scheduled to play at St. Peter, Saturday, but results of that game were not available by presstime.

This week, the Lady Storm are set to play at River Lakes, Tuesday (yesterday) and at Park Rapids, Saturday.

Members of this year’s MBA girls hockey team are senior Danielle Reuss (Benson), juniors Hannah Zimmel (Morris), Kellie Wilts (Morris), and Andrea Walz (KMS), sophomores Libbey Pendill and Leah Thompson, ninth-grader Taryn Picht, (Morris), eighth-graders Kortney Sanasack (Morris) and Allison Michealson (Morris), and seventh-graders Gabby Schneider (Morris), Isabelle Alsaker (KMS), Ruby Swenson (Morris), Karlie Bruns (Morris), and Chloe Zimmel (Morris).

The Lady Storm roster includes two girls from KMS, three from Benson, and nine from Morris Area-CA.

MBA has five games scheduled in Benson this year.  Besides the season opener, the Benson Civic Center will also play host to Windom Area (Dec. 1), Fairmont (Dec. 15), St. Peter (Dec. 21), and Worthington (Jan. 5)....
