Alissa Maurer returns a shot during a straight-set win at fourth singles vs. YME, helping Benson-KMS earn a 7-0 sweep in the first round of playoffs.

The Benson-KMS girls tennis team swept Yellow Medicine East in the first round of the Section 6A Girls Tennis Team Tournament last Wednesday in Benson, 7-0.  The match had been scheduled for Thursday, but was moved up a day because of the cold weather moving in later in the week.

Benson-KMS, which improved to 14-3 overall, moves on to face second-seeded Osakis in the Section 6A “Final Four”, set for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday (yesterday) at Courts Plus in Fargo.

Top-seeded Minnewaska Area and fifth-seeded LQP-DB are set to play earlier in the morning and the Section 6A championship match is set for 1 p.m. the same day.

The Benson-KMS girls tennis team, which finished the WCC scheduled in second place behind Minnewaska Area, is also set to take part in the Section 6A Individual Tourney, Wednesday, Oct. 10 and 16.

Expected to compete in the individual tourney for Benson-KMS are Sophia Curriel and Stacy Johnson in singles, and Olivia Hoffman-Gracie Lenz, and Hannah Andrews-Brenna Knutson in doubles.

The Benson-KMS girls tennis team is assured of finishing the season with one of the top 10 records in BHS girls tennis history....
