Dorothy Ann Bjerk, 85, of Owatonna, Minnesota, died Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  

Visitation was at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10-11 a.m.  Memorial services were held September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church with The Rev. Kirk Griebel officiating. Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice or Redeemer Lutheran Church.

She was born December 3, 1932 in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Fleeta (Smith) Larsen.

Dorothy grew up in Alta, IA and attended Fairview High School with her siblings. She enjoyed playing the trumpet and was a member of the girl’s basketball team. After graduation, Dorothy married Willard Fjordbak, January 14, 1951, in Truesdale, IA.

As newlyweds, Willard and Dorothy lived and worked on a farm near Storm Lake, IA. Dorothy also worked as a long distance telephone operator for the Bell Telephone Company. She was a dedicated farm wife and loved helping Willard with chores especially managing their chickens, all 2000 of them.

Dorothy was a gifted piano player and seamstress. When Willard was diagnosed with cancer, Dorothy took care of him in their home until he passed away.

July 17, 1999 Dorothy married James Bjerk. The couple spent their summers on the farm in Benson and their winters in Zapata, TX.  After the passing of her husband James and selling her farm in 2011, Dorothy moved to Texas for five years to be near her siblings.  In 2016, for health reasons, she moved to Owatonna to live with her son.

She is survived by her five children; Linda (Chuck) Andrews, Janey (Jerry) Nesbett, David (Marcia) Fjordbak, Nancy Mack, Marlin (Sally) Fjordbak; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-granchildren; one great-great-granchild; five step-children; David (Georgia) Bjerk, Vikki (Rich) Mullenbach, Cindy Bjerk, Dan Bjerk, Lee (Kristy) Bjerk; nine step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lois Peterson, Irma Jean Tyson; two brothers, Al Larsen, Dale (Charlotte) Larsen; two sisters-in-law, Ann Fjordbak, Ruth Fjordbak and many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Willard; husband, Jim; son-in-law Keith Roman, and step-granddaughter, Kristen Ann Perrot.
