MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777
Benson, Minnesota
Monday, April 16, 2018 – 5:30 p.m.
Benson High School Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Paul Carruth, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Tammy Gunlogson, Mary Langan, Bill McGeary, Chad Payne, Gary Williams
Members absent: None.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Mike Knutson, Dave Benson, Pam Anderson, Mike Thompson

Additions to the Agenda:  Long Term Substitute Contract and Girls Gymnastics Cooperative
The board approved the Agenda.
No Citizens Comments.
The Consent Agenda was approved.
Progress reports were presented by the administrators.

Interviews were completed last week for Athletic Director with references and background checks to be done. The student leadership team has done a nice job and continues to work together. MSHSL has reduced some areas to help get spring games in. There will be a football summit May 5th to address concussions and issues including declining numbers.

The board had a brief discussion for their book study on the final steps in the book “Passion”.
The board accepted the low base bid to replace the roof at Northside Elementary submitted by Weather Pro Exteriors in the amount of $111,343.20.
The board approved dissolving the 2017-2018 boys hockey cooperative.
The board approved the 2018-2019 boys hockey cooperative with Morris Area, Benson, Chokio-Alberta, West Central Area and Herman-Norcross.
The board approved to dissolve the current girls swimming cooperative.
The board approved the 2018-2019 girls swimming cooperative to include Morris Area, Minnewaska Area, Benson, Chokio-Alberta and Hancock.
The board approved to dissolve the current girls gymnastics cooperative.
The board approved the new girls gymnastics cooperative to include Benson and KMS.
The board approved the FY18 Budget Revision with revenue of $11,696,400 and expense of $11,998,100.  
Dave Benson explained the 5 year financial projection model used to make budget decisions.
Dave Benson explained the FY19 Preliminary Budget.  The final FY19 Budget will be adopted in June.

Donations:
$2,640 from family and friends for Northside Elementary School in memory of LaVayne Langan
$200 from Jan Baukol for the Keith Baukol Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 from Francie Millett for Ray Millett Memorial Scholarship
