MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Monday, January 22, 2018 - 5:30 p.m.
Benson Senior High Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Paul Carruth, Tammy Gunlogson, Mary Langan, Bill McGeary, Chad Payne and Gary Williams.
Members absent:  Jodi DeJong-Hughes.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Mike Knutson, Dave Benson, Pam Anderson, Anita Horecka, Jeanine Bowman, Kara Ebnet, Lynn Larson and Robert Neuman.
No additions to the agenda.
The board approved the Resolution Filling School Board Vacancy by Appointment with Tammy Gunlogson as a director.

Anita Horecka gave an overview of Benson’s summer lunch program during citizens comments.

The board approved the consent agenda.

Progress reports were presented by the administrators.

Five school board members reported on the MSBA Leadership Conference they attended this month.

The school board approved annual school board member compensation at $1,700, chair stipend at $1,200 and clerk stipend at $1,000 for 2018.

Staff from Northside Elementary reported on the $7,500 grant received to develop PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) along with a cohort of schools through the SWWC Cooperative.

Food Service Director, Jeanine Bowman, explained details involved in providing a Summer Food Program for the community.

The board approved to support Benson Public Schools submitting an Innovative Zone Grant to MDE.

The board approved to table the decision on in-floor heat in the civic center pending more information.  

The board approved to terminate Marsden’s contract and add a maintenance position.

Chair Chad Payne is recommending Mr. Lindquist’s book Passion: 8 Steps to Reignite Yours as a book study for the school board and assigned reading Steps 1-3 for discussion at the February board meeting.

$20,000 from Jennings Larson for the Arthur, Pearl & Wayne Larson Family Memorial Scholarship
$100 from Toni Lindstrom for the Kevin Lindstrom Memorial Scholarship
$500 from Dr. Richard & Anita Horecka for the Dr. Richard & Anita Horecka Scholarship
$200 from Michael Abbott for the Dody Fuchs-Abbott Memorial Scholarship
