The Benson football team missed out on a great opportunity to move up in the Section 5AA standings, losing at home to Montevideo in the annual Homecoming game for BHS, 27-7.

The Braves and Thunderhawks both came into the contest with 1-4 records, but Montevideo dominated from the start, going up 27-0 before Benson finally scored in the fourth quarter.

Benson is now tied with Sauk Centre, Paynesville, and Minnewaska Area for fourth place in Section 5AA with 1-5 records.  The Braves are set to host Minnewaska Area at 7 p.m., Friday, before playing at Sauk Centre in the regular-season finale, Wednesday, Oct. 19.
EV-Watkins (5-1), Osakis (4-2), and ACGC (3-3) will be the top three seeds in the section, but the other four teams are battling for the fourth seed and a home playoff game, Tuesday, Oct. 25.

“The last two games for us are very big because they have huge playoff implications,” Benson head coach Scott Gonnerman said.  “If we can play well and come away with two wins, we will get a home playoff game, which is one of the goals of this year’s team.”
The final regular-season home game is also Senior Night, Parent’s Night, Team Poster Give-away Night (fans will be able to go on the field and get autographs of the players with a free team poster after the game), and Breast Cancer Awareness Night (money will be collected for Breast Cancer Awareness)...
