The Benson boys tennis team fell to Montevideo, 6-1, in a WCC matchup last Tuesday night in Benson.  The Braves dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the loss.

The Braves were also set to play at MACCRAY, Thursday, but that match was postponed due to weather and was reset for Monday, May 2 at 3:30 p.m.

This week, the Braves were also set to compete in a triangular at Foley, Tuesday (yesterday) that also includes Pine City.  Benson is also set to compete at Yellow Medicine East, Thursday (tomorrow) before coming home again for a match with Minnewaska Area, Monday, May 9, which will not count in the conference standings.  Benson edged the Lakers earlier this season, 4-3.

Montevideo 6, Benson 1

The Braves fell 6-1 to one of the conference favorites last Tuesday night in Benson as Montevideo swept the four singles’ matches, giving up just four total games.

The match had originally been scheduled for last Monday, but was moved to Tuesday due to rain and cold.  Tuesday’s temperatures were still in the low to mid-40s.

Dylan McNeill and Kevin Johnson earned the lone point for Benson with a 6-4, 6-4 win at first doubles, while Kyle Ruppert and Josh Clark almost pulled out another point before falling in three sets at second doubles, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6.

In the other five matches, Benson did not win more than three games in any match, including two matches where the Braves did not win a game.

Montevideo and LQP-DB are considered the conference favorites this year
