Benson High School Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Andy Abner, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Jason Madden, Bill McGeary, Al Pagel, Chad Payne and Gary Williams.
Members absent: None.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Dave Benson, Pam Anderson, Deb Solsrud, Mike Thompson, David Nagler and Daren Schuerman.
Consent agenda items were approved as presented.
Progress reports were presented by administrators.
Supt. Laumeyer explained the Braves Foundation.  Scott Gonnerman and a committee of local citizens are working hard to get it going.  The kick-off will be at the first home football game on August 28th. It’s set up to enhance education at Benson Public Schools and the money donated will be used locally.  Donations are being accepted and all contributions are tax deductible.  More information is available on the school web site at
Deb Solsrud, School Perceptions of New London, reviewed the draft survey that will be mailed to homes in the district and asked for comments and input.  Final approval will be in October and the survey will launch in November.  Results should be ready in December.
K-6 Handbook was approved with the addition of a page at the beginning that highlights all changes made this year.
The Policy for Workload Limits for Certain Special Education Teacher was approved as presented.
First reading took place on the Long Term Facilities Maintenance Revenue (LTFM).  Dennis explained that this allows districts to plan for long term facilities maintenance.    LTFM rolls current Deferred Maintenance, Health & Safety and Alternative Facilities revenues into one.  To receive funding, districts must complete a 10 year facilities maintenance plan that is approved by the local school board and the MDE Commissioner of Education.
