Ingolf Noel Urke, 89, of Benson, died  Friday, July 24, 2015 at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.  Interment followed  the service at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Benson. Visitation was held from 10-11 a.m.  Saturday at the Zniewski Funeral Home in Benson.
He was born December 3, 1925 to Knut and Clara Lien Urke in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.   He worked as a farmhand for various farmers, was a truck driver, and a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Starbuck.  After retiring, he moved to Benson.
Ingolf was an Army Infantry Veteran of World War II.  He served with Co. H. 2nd Battalion 158th Infantry Regimental Combat Team and Bushmaster Regiment 6th Army on Luzon in the Philippines and Japan as a Rifleman and Machine Gunner.  He also served with Co. C. 1st Battalion 21st Infantry Regiment 24th Infantry Division 8th Army.  Ingolf was a life member of the VFW Post #1403 in Benson, the 158th Infantry Bushmaster Association, and the 24th Infantry Division Association.
He is survived by his siblings: Dena Hofstad of Starbuck, Marvin Urke of Hancock, Alfred (Loretta) Urke of Murdock, Conrad Urke of Benson, and Inga Mae Urke of Starbuck; special friend, Maggie Friedlein; many nieces and nephews; and cousins in Norway.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; brother-in-law, Leonard Hofstad; sister-in-law, Gretchen Urke; and nephew, Mark Urke.
