MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 777, Benson, Minnesota
Monday, April 20, 2015 – 7:00 p.m. –
Benson High School Media Center

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 p.m. by Chair Chad Payne.  Members present:  Andy Abner, Jodi DeJong-Hughes, Jason Madden, Bill McGeary, Al Pagel, Chad Payne, Gary Williams.
Members absent:  None.  Also present:  Dennis Laumeyer, Brad Johnson, Dave Benson, Karen Jacobson, Pam Anderson, Jon Ahrndt, Jeanine Bowman, Maggie Boese, Chad Carroll, Robert Neuman, Steve Ricard, Mike Thompson and Kristina Thompson.
No additions to the agenda.
No citizen comments.
Routine consent agenda items were approved.
Administrative reports were presented.
Karen Jacobson from MRVED presented sample mission and vision statements using key words and phrases the board had chosen previously. The board discussed the options and chose their preferences, giving the board time to consider the statements for final approval in May.
Bill McGeary reported the City of Benson and CNH have a new contract for the north end of the civic center for three more years so that space will not be available for gymnastics.
The board approved Superintendent Dennis Laumeyer as Benson Public Schools’ designated Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) official with authority to authorize user access to MDE.
First reading took place for the 2015-2016 Grades 7-12 Student Handbook.
Maggie Boese from Countryside Public Health and Bill McGeary, Swift County Emergency Manager, presented an update on emergency preparedness.  
The board approved the school properties to be used as emergency shelters and enter into an agreement with the Red Cross.
Food Service Director, Jeanine Bowman, explained the current Food Service Policy and how it could be revised to reduce negative account balances and address students receiving a program meal.  This was the first reading.

$200 from the family of Art Lee for the Class of 1951 Scholarship Fund
$1,000 from Frances Millett for the Ray Millett Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 from Steve & Gail Svor for the Kelly Svor Furhman Memorial Scholarship
$1,000 from James & Tammy Thompson for the John Thompson Memorial Scholarship
$500 from Rose Anne Petersen for the Tom Petersen Memorial Scholarship
