Edgar Gene Christenson, age 89, passed away May 2nd, 2015, at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Benson, Minnesota.  Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30th, 10:30 AM at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson, Minnesota.

Edgar Christenson was born December 6th, 1925, on the family farm along the banks of the Chippewa River in rural Swenoda Township.  He was one of ten children born to the marriage of Albert and Minnie (Rodahl) Christenson.

He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church - Swenoda Township (Swenoda Lutheran Church) and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Benson.

Childhood days were spent attending country school, working on the family farm, swimming and fishing in the Chippewa River in the summer, and ice skating and barrel jumping on the river in the winter.  Edgar attended school in rural District 49 (south of Benson) through the 8th grade, and then attended West Central High School for Agriculture in Morris, Minnesota.  He attended classes, washed dishes for room and board and played football for the “Aggies.”

On December 14, 1946, he married Gloria Kittleson at the church parsonage in Big Bend, Minnesota.  From their union, three children were born; Deborah, David and Jana.  Edgar and Gloria farmed south of Benson, Minnesota until 1971, when they moved into town.  Edgar was employed by the Swift County Highway Department for several years until suffering a serious stroke in 1984.  Edgar and Gloria continued to live in Benson until his passing.

Ed enjoyed working on the farm, hunting and fishing the Chippewa River, playing cards and watching his beloved Minnesota Twins - win or lose.  After his stroke and subsequent retirement, he and his wife spent several winters in Yuma, Arizona.  Ed had a great sense of humor (although a bit dry), and if you stayed around long enough, there would always be a story or a joke!  Edgar enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife of over sixty eight years, Gloria; his daughter Deborah (Jack) Staton of Benson, Minnesota; Rev. Dr. David (Janell) Christenson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five     grandchildren, Jade (Michelle) Abner of Benson, MN; Jamison (Kari) Abner of Fargo, ND; Sarah (D.J) Helmberger, Benson, MN; Bethany Christenson of Minneapolis, MN; and Kathryn Christenson, Mankato, MN; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Minnie; all nine siblings; Raymond, Edger E. (who both died in infancy) Alvin, Robert, Olga, Minda, Leila, Hazel, Agnes; and a daughter, Jana.
