Steven Lynn Lysen was born December 18, 1949 to Donald Truman and Gladys Ilene (Gunderson) Lysen.  He was baptized December 26, 1949, by Dr. George Dickson and confirmed in 1966 by Pastor John Brooks at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson.  Steve grew up in Langhei Township and attended country school at District 65 through the sixth grade.  He graduated from Benson High School in 1968.
On October 19, 1974, he was married to Marilynn Rooney at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten.  This union was blessed with three children and four grandchildren.  Steve lived on the family farm in Langhei Township in Pope County where he farmed and had beef and dairy cattle.  Steve also worked in maintenance at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home and as a corrections officer at the Prairie Correctional Facility in Appleton for nine years.
Steve was active with the Saddle Club and 4-H while growing up.  He was a co-founder, and came up with the name, for the “Putts-N-Purrs” Antique Tractor Club and was a Camp Host at the Glacial Lakes State Park.  He enjoyed horses, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  His children always referred to him as “Pa” and the grandchildren called him “Grandpa Uff-Da”.  He loved to visit and always had a joke to tell.
Steve died on Wednesday evening at the Swift County Benson Hospital.  He attained the age of 65 years and 23 days.
He is survived by three children: Kristi (James) Hendershot of Columbia, MD,  Karla (Shawn) Petermann of Alexandria, and John (Becky) Lysen of Benson; four grandchildren: Alex and Natalie Woolwine (Kristi), Kaitlynn and Ella Lysen (John); his mother, Gladys Lysen; two brothers: Eugene (LeAnn) Lysen and Jerome (Linda) Lysen, both of Benson; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald in 2011, and his grandparents.
