Area sees first below zero temperature

When the temperature fell to a minus 2 degrees early Saturday morning it marked the first below zero reading of the 2022-2023 winter season. It was the earliest below zero reading of the past three years but by no means unusual.
Over the last 11 years, seven times the first minus temperature has come in December and four times it arrived in November.
