CCD Theatre to present “Beauty and the Beast” this Friday and Saturday

The two director/actors from the Compass Creative Dramatic Children’s Theatre, Scott Sawa and Emma Noelle, speak to the local youth auditioning for a role in the upcoming “Beauty and the Beast” performance this Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. in the senior high gym.

The Compass Creative Dramatic Children’s Theatre  is working with Benson Community Education and local youth this week to rehearse for two performances this Friday and Saturday of “Beauty and the Beast”.  As their beloved books disappear off the shelves, Beauty and her team of local librarians embark on a quest to rescue them from the city sewers. There, they find the Beast and his henchmen searching desperately to cure the curse that has transformed them all into animals of the lowest degree. Amidst dancing pigeons, ticklish books, and enchanted blue roses, Beauty and the Beast learn that it’s only by working together that they can save the day.   Auditions took place Monday afternoon in the senior high gym and practices will take place all week leading up to the performances at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 3 and again at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 4 in the senior high gym.  Tickets are $5 and are available at the door....

Challenge Of A Lifetime Faced With Complacency

With each passing month, new research comes out that more definitively links our burning of fossil fuels to a warming climate. Distressingly, these studies often also magnify the imperative for those of us who call Planet Earth home to start paying attention and take action.

But we are too busy with our today’s needs to be burdened with worrying about our children’s future. Looking out 100 years, we shrug; not our concern, not our problem. Those facing the life-threatening challenges we’ve baked into their future will undoubtedly curse our existence.

Our seasons are out of whack. We talk of how spring arrives earlier, winters are milder, and the summers are getting hotter. Now research published in the well-respected magazine Science details to the level of “fingerprinting” just how our activities leave an imprint that can be identified and separated from natural occurrences in weather patterns.
