Summer leagues coming to a close

Mini-Tennis Camp takes place in Benson

Thirty-two young tennis players in grades 2-9 (for 2018-19 school year) took part in a three-day mini tennis camp last Monday through Wednesday at the high school courts in Benson....

Kerkhoven Legion shuts out Benson

The Kerkhoven Legion baseball team split a pair of games last week with Benson and Montevideo.  Kerkhoven opened the week with a 10-0 shutout of Benson last Monday night, but then lost at Montevideo last Tuesday, 6-2.

Kerkhoven is 5-5 overall with only one game left on the regular-season schedule.  Kerkhoven was also set to host Eden Valley-Watkins, Thursday, but that game was canceled.

This week, Kerkhoven was set to close out the regular-season with a home game against Granite Falls, Monday.  The opening round of the district tourney is set for Thursday and the district playoffs are set for this Saturday and Sunday at Granite Falls....

Geraldine (Nordgren) Quick passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

Private services will be held. Memorials are preferred to the family: c/o Crescent Tide Funeral Home, 764 Transfer Road, St. Paul, MN 55114.

Geraldine was born March 31, 1930.   

She is survived by nieces: Candee Elder, Lucinda Brophy, Cheryl Jones and Connie Bonk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Quick; parents: John and Ruth Nordgren and brother, Ralph Nordgren.

The funeral service for Marie C. Austin of Morris, Minnesota (formerly of Hancock) was held  Friday, July 20, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris, with Deacon Stan Hennen officiating. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial was at St. Malachy Catholic Cemetery, Clontarf.

Marie Henning, daughter of Carl and Rosa (Metz) Henning was born in Adrian, Minnesota May 24, 1919. She grew up and was educated at St. Adrian’s School.

Marie was married to Jack Blair November 10, 1936 in Adrian. The couple lived in Adrian before moving to Hancock in 1957. Jack died in 1964. She married Harold Austin in 1965. Marie continued to live in Hancock before moving to Morris; most recent she was a resident at West Wind Village.

Lola M. Kennedy, 93, of Murdock, Minnesota died Sunday, July 15 in her home.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock.  Fr. Steven Verhelst officiated.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  

Lola Maria (Rosemeier) Kennedy was born June 16, 1925 in Murdock, Minnesota, the daughter of Ernest Rosemeier and Mary (Krattenmaker) Rosemeier. She died July 15, 2018 at her home in Murdock surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home of Ortonville, Minnesota, announces the death of Judith Anderson, 73, current resident of Benson and former resident of Ortonville, who died July 11, 2018, at Clara City Care Center, Clara City  She was the spouse of Carleton Anderson.

Services for Judith Anderson will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home, Ortonville. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday.  Pastor Paul Peterson will be officiating. Burial will take place at Mound Cemetery following the service. 
 
Judith L. Skaarer was born June 3, 1945, to Elvin and Lillian (Erickson) Skaarer.  She attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School in 1963.  She attended Lake Area Vo-Tech in Watertown, SD, and graduated in 1987.

RoJean Mary O’Malley, 76, of Appleton, Minnesota passed away peacefully surrounded by family  Monday, July 2 at the Appleton Hospital after a valiant fight with cancer.

RoJean was born September 27, 1941, in Benson, Minnesota to Lowell and Marion Todd.  Later on, the family moved to DeGraff, where she graduated from Benson High School in 1959.

RoJean and her husband Jim O’Malley (1933-2009) lived in DeGraff, Minnesota and raised five boys (John Patrick, Patrick James, Michael John, Jimmy Dugan, and Bradley Charles). They moved to Montevideo in 1979, where RoJean worked in several capacities including being a realtor, security at the Appleton Prison, and as dispatch at the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.
