KMS boys top Canby for fifth win of season

Regan Carlson had 33 points to lead KMS to a 76-51 win over Canby last week for the Saints’ fifth victory of the season, tying last year’s season total.

The KMS boys basketball team had a busy week last week, playing three games and going 1-2 overall.  The Saints opened up last week’s action with a 76-51 win over Canby last Tuesday night, but the week ended with a pair of losses to Prinsburg CMCS, Thursday, 67-61, and to Lakeview, Friday, 73-58.

The Saints, now 5-5 overall and 3-4 in the Camden North Conference, have already matched their win total from a year ago.

KMS has another three games scheduled this week, including a game at Tracy Area, Tuesday, a game at home against Benson Thursday, and at RTR, Friday....

BKMS gymnasts fourth at Marshall Invitational

The Benson-KMS gymnastics team placed fourth at the 8-team Marshall Invitational, Saturday.  Willmar, the state’s top-ranked team in Class A, won the meet with 145.825 points, while Worthington, ranked fifth in state, was second with 142.875 points.

Benson-KMS is set to host Long Prairie-GE, Thursday in the Benson Armory before preparing for another home meet the following Thursday, Jan. 18 against Melrose Area....

Benson wrestling team falls short vs. MAHACA

Grant Evenson (top) records a pin during the Braves Wrestling Classic.  The Braves are set to host an Alumni Night match against BOLD, Thursday.

Morris Area-CA-Hancock stormed out to a 24-0 lead after three matches and held on for a 45-30 victory over Benson in a WCC wrestling matchup, Friday at Morris.

Benson came back to win six matches, but it was too little, too late.  There were four matches that went the distance and Benson won two of them, but the Tigers countered with five pins and two forfeits.

The Braves, who dropped to 2-3 overall in duel matches and 0-2 in the WCC, have three meets on tap this week.

Benson was set to compete at ACGC, Tuesday, host BOLD, Thursday, and wrestle at the Parkers Prairie Invitational, Saturday....

Early deficit too much to overcome as Benson girls fall to CGB, 51-41

The Benson girls basketball team lost a close game with Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley last Tuesday night in Benson, 51-41.

The Braves trailed by a big margin for most of the first half before a pair of 3-pointers by Kaitlyn Berreau and a basket off an offensive rebound by Abby Lundebrek helped pull Benson to within 24-16 by halftime.

Benson played even with CGB in the second half, but ended up losing by 10 to a team that has lost only once all season.

The Braves, who fell to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the WCC, were set to host Atwater-CGC, Tuesday and play at Morris Area-CA, Friday....

MBA boys split games at home tournament

Chase Engebretson continues to do a great job for the Storm in net.

The MBA boys hockey team split a pair of games at its own holiday tournament at Morris, Thursday and Friday.  The Storm fell to Providence Academy in the first game, Thursday, 9-0, but came back to top Fairmont in the third-place game, Friday, by a 6-2 score.

In the championship game, Providence Academy topped Prairie Centre, 9-4.  A recap of the Fairmont game was not available by presstime.  MBA also beat Fairmont earlier this season, 9-4.

MBA improved to 3-4-1 overall with the split of games heading into the 2018 portion of its schedule.

The Storm are set to go on the road for the first part of the New Year as MBA plays at Redwood Valley, Thursday and at Worthington, Saturday....

Benson boys fall twice at Redwood Valley Tourney

Will Enderson (dribbling) tries to dribble past defense pressure during an early-season game in Benson.  Enderson had a season-high 16 points during a loss to MCW last week.

The Benson boys basketball team competed at the Redwood Valley Tournament, Wednesday and Thursday, losing both games.

Benson fell to Redwood Valley in the first game, Wednesday, 67-50, and also lost to Martin County West in the third-place game, Thursday, 70-59.  Lakeview edged Redwood Valley for the tournament title, 66-55.

The 59 points is a season-high for the Braves, who had been held under 40 points in four-straight games leading up to the Redwood Tourney.

Benson fell to 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the WCC heading into this week’s action, which includes a game at BOLD, Thursday (tomorrow), and a game at home against Lac qui Parle, Saturday....
