Saints top Braves in baseball opener, 10-2

Jared Knutson (left) waits for a pitch that never arrives as Brandin Dahl lines a two-run hit down the leftfield line during the Saints’ opening-game win over Benson last week.
After Dan Lenarz was injured early in the game, Hunter Mondor responded with 3 1/3 innings of quality pitching.

The Benson baseball team opened up the season with a pair of losses to KMS (10-2) and Montevideo (3-2).  The Braves scored the first run in both games, but were unable to hold on to the lead.  The loss to Montevideo was especially tough as Benson led 1-0 going into the bottom-half of the sixth when the Thunderhawks plated three runs....

A big fourth and fifth innings by the Saints paved the way for a 10-2 opening-game win by KMS over Benson last Tuesday night on Chiefs’ Field in Benson.

That wasn’t the story of the night however.  Benson junior Dan Lenarz, one of the top pitchers for the Braves this season, injured his knee while swinging at a pitch early in the game.

Preschool Should Have Legislature’s Support

Preschool Should Have Legislature’s Support

by Reed Anfinson
Publisher, Swift County Monitor-News

“The first five years of a child’s life are fundamentally important. They are the foundation that shapes children’s future health, happiness, growth, development and learning achievement at school, in the family and community, and in life in general. Children learn more quickly during their early years than at any other time in life.”

Those words from the World Health Organization pretty much sum up the critical importance of early childhood learning. We also know that good nutrition is essential to child development and learning. We know that a nurturing environment determines how a child develops and learns.
