UPDATE: Three county turkey farms cleared of quarantine status

The Minnesota Board of Animal Health has lifted its quarantine of the final three of seven Swift County turkey farms that had been infected by the deadly avian flu virus this past spring.
However, only one farm has been received a restocking agreement so far.   In all, 33 of 107 turkey and chicken facilities in the state that were infected by the virus now have the restocking agreements. No new cases of avian influenza have been reported in Minnesota since June 5.

MPCA again issues an air pollution health alert for our area

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has issued an air pollution health alert for the northern two-thirds of Minnesota due to smoke blowing in from forest fires in Canada. While air quality briefly improved following rain showers on Sunday and Monday, heavy smoke is returning to Minnesota behind the storm system. As of 9:00 a.m. Monday, air quality across the northern two-thirds of Minnesota had reached unhealthy levels. Air quality is expected to remain poor throughout the day on Monday.

While air quality is currently good across southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities, smoke may return to the area later today. For current air quality conditions visit the Air Quality Index page.

Boyd Jaeger, age 90, of Benson

Boyd Ernest Jaeger, 90, of Benson, Minnesota died Saturday, July 4, 2015, at the Swift County Benson Hospital.  
Funeral services were 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation was held Tuesday, July 7, 2015, from 5-8 p.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to the service.  
Interment was in the Benson City Cemetery.
Boyd Ernest Jaeger was born January 30, 1925 to Ernest and Josephine (Hippe) Jaeger in Benson.  He was baptized at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.  He grew up in Cashel Township and attended rural country school and Benson Public School.  
January 29, 1950, Boyd was united in marriage to Lucille A. Fuhrman at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Benson by Rev. H.S. Nasheim.  This union was blessed with three children, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  Together they were able to share in more than 58 years of marriage.

Delores Vera Olen age 84 of Orono

Delores Vera Olen age 84 of Orono passed away on Saturday, June 27. Born on February 20, 1931 in Breckenridge, MN, she grew up in the Nashua/Tintah area. After graduating from Tintah High School, she attended Wahpeton School of Science. United in marriage to George Albert Olen on July 7th, 1957, she enjoyed a long career working for US Bank and Pitney Bowes. She was member of Peace Lutheran Church in Plymouth and trusted in her Savior. Delores had a unique quality of always being interested in each person she met. Family and friends were important to her and she loved her grandchildren above all. Preceded in death by husband, George; parents, John and Edna Durner; and brother, Darwin. She is survived by daughter, Debra (Dave) Prazak; grandchildren, Seth, Caleb, Rachel and Rebekah; sisters, Jeanette (Lloyd) Keller, Joyce Riess; sister-in-law, Jeanette Sandven, and several nieces and nephews.

Walsh, Sister Julitta, CSJ, age 92, of St. Paul

Walsh, Sister Julitta, CSJ, age 92, of St. Paul, died at Carondelet Village on Tuesday, June 30, 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Longman and Francis Walsh; her siblings and their spouses, Joe (Irma), Mary (Irv) Helgeson, Jim (Ann), Leo (Lou), Irene (Art) Diederich, Ed (Vi), Larry (Gert), Sister Dorothy, CSJ, Bill, Gert (Jim) Rutledge, Dick Lever and Rose Walsh.

Her first ministry was teaching the primary grades in several schools over twenty years in the Twin City area, in Ghent, MN and in Grand Forks, ND. She spent the next forty years in religious education and in parish ministry, of which over thirty were spent in Nashville, TN and Columbia, MO. She was known for her hard work and for her sense of humor. She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Lever, her brother, Thomas, and her sister-in-law, Pat Walsh; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, the Sisters of St. Joseph and Consociates and her faithful caregivers at Carondelet Village.

Lakers fall to 6-3 with loss to Regal

The Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers were shut out for the first time this season during a 10-0 loss to Regal, Sunday afternoon in Sunburg.
The loss dropped the Lakers record to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in the County Line League with two games to play.
Norway Lake-Sunburg has the Fourth of July week off before closing out its regular-season schedule against NLS, Saturday, July 11, and at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 12, at home against Atwater.
