Benson baseball team rallies for win over ACGC

The Benson baseball team rallied for a 7-2 victory over Atwater-CGC, Friday in Benson, as the Braves scored five runs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie.
Earlier in the week, the Braves fell to BOLD, 12-1, putting the team’s overall and conference record at 2-3.
Benson was also set to host Renville County West, Thursday, but that game was canceled due to weather.
This week, the Braves were set to play at YME, Tuesda; host Paynesville, Thursday; and play at a tournament in Montevideo, Friday.  During the Montevideo Tourney, Benson was set to play Worthington at 4 p.m., and  Redwood Valley at 6 p.m., both on Montevideo’s JV baseball fields.

Contractor's sealed Proposals for the 2014 Northside Elementary School and Benson High School Reroofing will be received by the Independent School District No. 777, Benson, Minnesota, until 2:00 pm, May 22, 2014 at the office of the Superintendent of Schools, in Benson, Minnesota, in accordance with the plans and specifications prepared by Architects Rego + Youngquist, inc., 7601 Wayzata Boulevard, St. Louis Park, Minnesota 55426.
Bids will be opened publicly and read aloud at the above time and place.  Bids received after 2:00 pm will be returned unopened.
A single bid will be received for all divisions of the Contract.
Envelopes containing bids must be sealed, marked on the lower left-hand corner "Sealed Bid Enclosed" with the name and address of the bidder and the date and hour of the opening and addressed to:

Benson prom brings out fun, good times

Benson's prom was last weekend with the traditional march into the auditorium.  Enchanted Evening was the theme.  A dance and all party followed the march.

Sophomore emcees Adam Lindahl and Hanna Lindblad announced the couples.

Irene Lorraine (Dahl) Graham, formerly of Starbuck

Irene Lorraine Graham, 80, of Benson, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 3 at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson, with Rev. William Warnock officiating.  Interment was held in the Benson City Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 2 at the Pilgrim Congregational United Church of Christ in Benson and continued for one hour prior to the service.
Irene Lorraine (Dahl) Graham was born  October 1, 1933, in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota, the daughter of Guy O. and Gladys E. (Halvorson) Dahl.  She was baptized and confirmed at East Zion Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck.  She graduated from Starbuck High School as the class valedictorian in 1951 and went to work in Anchorage Alaska at the 1st National Bank of Alaska.

Leroy W. Beyer, 87, Benson

LeRoy W. Beyer, 87, of Benson, died  Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Benson.  
A memorial service was held 10:30 a.m.  Monday, May 5, 2014 at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation was held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.
LeRoy William Beyer, 87, was born  March 30, 1927, in Holloway, Minnesota, the son of Fred and Martha Suckow Beyer.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Holloway and attended District 97 school in Moyer Township.  LeRoy served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954.

Jerry A. Olson, 66, Benson

Jerry A. Olson, 66, of Benson, died  Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.  
A memorial service was held  Saturday, May 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  Visitation was held from 10:00 am to 11:00 a.m. at the church  Saturday.  
Jerry Alan Olson, 66, was born  October 18, 1947, in Benson, Minnesota, the son of Arol and Pearl Jergenson Olson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church in Benson.  He grew up in Benson and graduated from Benson High School and later attended Custodial School in the Twin Cities.  
He assisted Tubby Forbord and worked as a DJ for the roller rink at the Benson Armory, ran the projectors and cleaned the DeMarce Theater, was a service attendant at Kellner’s, and worked as a custodian at the Benson High School.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Promise of Spring

It may have been snowing last week, but with temperatures finally into the 50s and 60s, it seems the weather has finally turned.

Today will be in the low 60s but saturday and the next week will enjoy temps in the 50s.

Expect rain much of next week, tapering off into the weekend.

Noon weather friday in Benson is sunny and 52 degrees.

Southern states expect severe weather the next few days.
