Work on construction of a 300,000-gallon clearwell storage tank near the Benson Golf Club is nearing completion.

The $2.64 million project sits adjacent to the city’s water filtering plant and will provide backup water storage for the city for times when its 500,000-gallon water tower runs low.

When its interior has to be painted, or there are structural issues, the city faces lower water pressure times for residents and businesses. However, the bigger threat is what happens if low supplies in the tower combine with a major fire in the community?

There are also times when the city is working on its water filtering plant that reserves become important.
